Pivot

The first non-zero entry in each row of a matrix is called the pivot/leading entry.

Row Echelon Form

  • All rows of zeroes are at the bottom.
  • Each pivot is to the right of the pivot above it.

Reduced Row Echelon Form

  • Is in REF.
  • Each pivot is 1.
  • The only non-zero entry in each column is a pivot.
